Since founding the nonprofit Strike It Strong two years ago, co-founders Nancy Starr and Cheryl Squadrito have met local women and children with extraordinary survival stories – true phoenixes rising. They soon realized they wanted to help in a deeper, more sustainable way beyond offering self-defense classes.

When Cheryl’s beloved sister, Marilyn, passed away in April, the loss was devastating. With the loving support of her family and encouragement from Nancy, they chose to honor Marilyn’s legacy by transforming their grief into purpose.

They are proud to introduce The Step-Up Fund, a new division of Strike It Strong created in Marilyn’s memory. Marilyn dedicated her career to supporting vulnerable children and assault survivors. She was a bright light to those who needed her most, and this fund seeks to carry that light forward.

The Step-Up Fund will provide women in need with practical resources to restart and rebuild their lives—such as housing deposits, technology, job-readiness support, home essentials, security items, and more. Donations, gift cards, and sponsorships are welcome, and early contributions such as laptops and security systems are already making an impact.

Support is needed in many forms -volunteers, donors, community partners, and advocates are all invited to join the mission of helping women step into safety, strength, and hope.
