Self-defense safety class and fundraiser for women on Sept. 28 in Cherry Hill NJ

Strike It Strong

Women ages 14 to 104 are invited to learn the basics to protect themselves in sticky situations

What started as two friends wanting to do something meaningful for the community,Strike It Strong has grown into a nonprofit with a mission to help and empower women through self-defense classes and wellness seminars.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 28 from 1 to 2:30 pm, because Strike It Strong hosts its next event at the Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club.Click here to register. All proceeds will benefit Strike It Strong, a 501c3 nonprofit. This workshop is exclusively for women, providing a safe and supportive environment to learn self-defense basics.

The class will be led by instructor Paul Cybularz, owner of LUDUS Academy of Martial Arts in Mount Holly.  With Strike It Strong since the beginning, Cybularz will teach situational awareness and practical self-defense tactics. He will review practical exercises and demonstrations for self-defense, while encouraging women to trust their instincts in dicey situations.

This program is tailored for women and girls ages 14 and older and tickets are $25. All women are encouraged to attend with loved ones: moms and daughters, aunts and nieces, grandmoms and great-grandmoms, BFFs coworkers, or any important women in their lives. Participants in the self-defense class should wear comfortable, loose clothing and bring a water bottle.

Local entrepreneurs Nancy Lipkin Starr, president ofFirst Impressions Marketing in Cherry Hill, andCheryl Squadrito, founder ofMedia Friendly PR in Haddonfield, createdStrike It Strong, as a way to give back to the women in their communities.

“Nancy and I had an idea to holdone event to empower women and give money raised to a women-related charity, and it sold out almost immediately,” Squadrito said. “The energy from the women in the room was palpable and we decided then to organize more events so we could spread that vibe. We quickly realized that we could help more women if we became a nonprofit, so we made that happen.”

Now, Strike It Strong is a 501c3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization.

Starr and Squadrito met while serving on the board of the South Jersey chapter of NAWBO, the National Association of Women Business Owners. The two businesswomen agree that the collaboration has sparked their creativity and desire to help and support women.“One of our goals is to create a spirit of camaraderie and community. We love seeing multi-generational families at our events,” Starr said. “There’s something magical that happens when you put a room full of women together.”
